You may have noticed a checkbox labeled “Recalculate client discount” under Costs (triple net) in the media plan form. This checkbox is not always visible – and there is a specific reason for that.
When you create an offer for the first time, the “Recalculate client discount” checkbox is not yet displayed, as the offer is being created at that point. All information entered, including the discount value, is currently valid and (hopefully) correct.
In general, Mercury distinguishes between two types of discounts:
- Publisher discount – defined in the Reference Data under Publisher Management and automatically applied to an offer.
- Client discount – defined in the Category Settings of the respective client.
A practical example: You plan a campaign for a client for an entire year and set the client discount valid at that time. The client approves the plan, but later in the year, the contract changes – meaning the discount agreement is adjusted retroactively (e.g. from 3 % to 1 %).
In this case, you can update the new discount in the client’s Category Settings. It’s important to note that this change is not automatically applied to existing line items.
To ensure Mercury does not change existing offers automatically, but only after explicit confirmation by a user, you can open the line item form of an already created offer via Right-click → Edit, scroll to the end, and you will find the checkbox “Recalculate client discount”.
When you activate the checkbox and save the form, Mercury automatically checks which client discount is currently defined in the client’s category and updates the discount value on the line item accordingly.
This ensures that:
- discount changes are not applied automatically but only through active user confirmation,
- already booked or even invoiced campaigns are protected from unintended changes,
- and the line item always shows the current client discount value after recalculation (e.g. instead of 3 %, now 1 %).
In short: The “Recalculate client discount” checkbox is a safety feature that ensures discount changes only take effect when a Mercury user intentionally triggers them.
